Passover 2020

Thank you for your registration for the Great Awakening Passover Event 2020 in Detroit, MI. As you have no doubt heard, National and local health authorities have determined that social distancing reduces the risk of spreading or contracting COVID-19. Here in Michigan, we are currently in a house quarantine situation. To avoid putting our guests at risk unnecessarily, we regret to inform you that we will modify the Passover 2020 Event. As we were preparing for this year’s event, we were excited about the potential of drawing people from across the country to participate in this highly anticipated Feast Gathering in the Hebrew Community.

It was our goal to wait to see how things were going to pan out nationally and locally at the end of March before we decided on whether we should proceed with the Passover as scheduled. We have consulted with the Great Awakening Executive Team and had to make a difficult, but necessary, decision to modify this year’s event.

Refund

The Great Awakening will refund all attendee registration fees automatically by April 3 to the original form of payment.

If you would prefer, you may donate your registration fees toward the Great Awakening World Missions. The Missions Team consists of volunteers from the Hebraic Community who travel the globe to provide medical care, health education, biblical heritage, humanitarian assistance to people in need and share the Besorah (Gospel) with the dispersed of Israel. Being supported by you enable us to go into other Countries where the disperse is to share the Gospel and to provide humanitarian relief. If you would like to donate your registration fee toward the World Missions, please email Gail McGee at mission.greatawakening400@gmail.com or respond to this email.

For those opting for a full refund, it may take up to two days for the credit to appear on your account. If you paid by check, a check will be issued to the payer on your check payment, and it may take up to 7 days to receive your check refund. Please remember to cancel your own hotel and travel reservations as soon as possible.

Modified Event

As mentioned, we have modified this year’s event. This year’s events will take place online using Zoom Video Conferencing, YouTube and Facebook on April 9-11 as we come together from all over the world to observe Passover remotely in this unprecedented time. This year, we ask you and your families to join us and other families around the world for a virtual Passover Experience of a lifetime. This year, more than ever, we need to be together with our families around the table, drawn together by personal connections and reflecting on what our ancestors overcame as they came out of Egypt. Your friends and extended family are invited to join in, too!

This won’t be an ordinary Passover Experience. Yes, there will be messages from the speakers, and familiar Hebrew songs and all the important elements. But there will also be a Seder Meal in which you and your family have the opportunity to participate. We will also have thought-provoking questions, relevant discussions about Africa diaspora, music, and excellent teachings. All shared with Hebrews around the world.

Program

Thursday, April 9, 2020, 6:00 pm Communal Seder Meal Passover Celebration:

Our Communal Seder Meal Passover Celebration will be led by Dr. Michael and Sandra Laws and Congregation Beit Ephraim. Click here for the Seder Program Guide for you to follow along with us via Zoom, Facebook or YouTube. The Seder Program will also be conveniently displayed on the screen during the event. The program is expected to last at least 70 minutes.

In preparation for the Seder celebration, it is customary to remove all leaven (chametz) from our homes (Exodus 12:15, 19). As a result, the removal of leaven signifies the attitude of penitence, the willingness to remove any corrupting influence in our lives and submit to YHVH in obedience. As the Hebrews prepared for the exodus by obeying the commands of YHVH through Moses, so in removing the chametz, we symbolize our willingness to obey YHVH in preparation for celebrating the deliverance he has already brought to His people. We have included a list of Types of Leavening Agents to get out of your home and a list of Foods You Can Eat during the 7 days of Passover.

In order to fully participate in the Seder Meal and Passover Celebration, below are a few things that you should have in your possession. On the table is a Seder Plate, representing traditional items that depict the Hebrew deliverance from slavery. These are required items:

1. Seder plate:

• Zaroah – Shank bone of the lamb represents the Passover Lamb
• Matzah – Unleavened Bread (the Bread of Affliction)
• Maror – Bitter Herbs (Horseradish)

2. You will also need a kosher or unfermented wine.

• Kosher Wine

3. Other traditional items on the Seder table are:

• Salt Water
• Parsley
• Candles

4. Traditional Unleavened Meal to eat after the celebration

The elements on the Seder plate are traditionally used as representations to assist us with retelling the story of the exodus. They will incorporate the use of all our senses; sound, sight, taste, touch, and smell. These items will serve to remind us that we are to guard our gateways so that we do not fall back into bondage. Why Do We Celebrate Passover on April 8 and the Feast on April 9?

The Passover season is upon us for 2020.  Many of us are wondering when do we celebrate the Seder meal?  There are several calendars and all of them agree that Passover is on the 8^th day of April, 2020.  Most of the Gregorian calendars indicate that Passover is on the 8^th day of April.  Most of them also indicate that there is a full moon the night of the 8^th of April.  However, they fail to mention that a day in the Bible goes from evening to evening.  Consequently, Passover begins after evening on the 8^th and ends on the 9^th of April.  On every Passover, there is a full moon.  This year on the 7^th of April there is a “pink moon” which has the appearance of a full moon however, the full moon does not occur until the next night of  April 8^th. Below is a detail explanation.

1. In order to get the right dates, it is best to go back to the eveningof the 26^th of March which is the “New Moon.” 
2. If you count 14 evenings later, you arrive at the eveningof the 8^th day of April as the “Eve / beginning” of the day of Passover.
3. The Hebrew day goes from evening to evening.
4. Passover endson the evening of the 9^th of April which is Thursday.
5. Once the Passover ends at 6:00 on the 9^th, the Feast of Unleavened Bread begins which is when we conduct the Sedar meal according to Scripture.
6. 23:4 indicates that on the 14^thday of Abib at twilight is YHVH’ s Passover. 
7. The 14^thof Abib begins this year after 6:00 on April 8^th.
8. The end of the 14^thday of Abib/Passover is on the 9^th of April at 5:59 pm.
9. Remember, the lamb had to be killed at evening or twilighton Passover.
10. If Passover begins at 6:00pmon Wednesday the 8^th of April, the killing of the lamb and the Crucifixion would have to occur between 12:00 and 3:00 on Thursday the 9^th of April.
11. The key is evening to evening.  The Hebrew day begins after 6:00pm going into the night for 12 hours.
12. The day or “Boqer” begins at 6:00 amand is counted by hours. 9:00 is the 3^rd hour, 12:00 is the 6^th hour and 3:00 pm is the 9^th hour.
13. See John 11:9 Yahusha answered, “Are there not twelve hours in a day?..... (from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm)
14. 27:45 Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hourthere was darkness over all the land.  46. And about the ninth hour Yahusha cried out with a loud voice, saying Eli, Eli, lam sabachthani? That is “My God, My God, why have You forsaken me?
15. In conclusion, Passover begins this year on the 8^thof April in the evening and ends on April 9^th at 5:59 pm.
16. This is confirmed also by all calendars which indicate a full moon on the night of the 8^thof April which is also the 14^th of Abib.
17. Passover is always on the 14^thof Abib to begin at evening.
18. The next day after 6:00 pm on April 9^thbegins the Feast of Unleavened Bread (15^th of Abib) which is the time of the Sedar meal.
